Turn a PDF into flashcards
Upload a PDF and HippoKit writes flashcards from its content. Rate each card as you review it, and HippoKit works out when that card is next due.
How it works
Upload the PDF
Create a free account and upload your notes, chapter or handout. PDF upload is included on the Free plan.
Get the deck
HippoKit writes the cards. A flashcard deck costs 1 credit.
Review and rate
Rate each card Again, Hard, Good or Easy and HippoKit records when it is next due. Edit any card inline, or print the deck as a PDF.
Good to know
- A finished kit is public by link, and can be found by search engines, unless you set it to private from its share menu.
- Uploading a PDF needs a free account. Without one you can generate flashcards from a typed topic.
- The Free plan has 60 credits a month and takes shorter PDFs; longer documents need a paid plan.
- HippoKit does not export to other flashcard apps today. You can print or save the deck as a PDF.
- Printing or saving as a PDF uses your browser's print view, which works while the kit is public. Print before you set a kit to private.

Questions
Can I make flashcards from a PDF for free?
Yes. A free HippoKit account includes PDF upload and 60 credits a month, and a flashcard deck costs 1 credit. Longer PDFs need a paid plan.
Does HippoKit use spaced repetition?
Partly. You rate each card after you answer it, and HippoKit works out when that card is next due, on every plan. The deck in the web app still shows every card each time; it does not yet filter to the cards that are due. A connected AI assistant can ask for just the due cards.
Can I edit the flashcards?
Yes. Edit the front or back of any card directly in the deck. On the Plus plan and up you can also ask the AI to rewrite just that card.
Can I export the flashcards?
You can print the deck or save it as a PDF. Export to other flashcard apps is not available today.
